PEFC-Certification of Nørhaven A/S

As a supplement to our FSC-certification we have recently initiated implementation of a PEFC-certification. (The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes).

PEFC was founded in 1999. PEFC is a private initiative, with the purpose to establish an international credible network for sustainable forest management globally and locally. The Danish part of PEFC intends to document and encourage sustainable management of the forests and furthermore to ensure, that it is possible to trace the certified wood throughout the manufacturing chain, from the forest to the consumer.

We will be able to offer a wide number of PEFC certified paper and board qualities that correspond to the well-known uncertified qualities.

Boekenweek 2010

Nørhaven A/S has printed BOEKENWEEK 2010 for the Dutch bookmarket in an edition of 85,000 copies. The book is distributed to all bookstores and libraries in Holand.

This year Boekenweekgeschenk Duel was written by Joost Zwagerman. Joost Zwagerman debuted in 1986 with his novel De houdegreep.

Precious

Nørhaven has printed the Danish version of the novel, Precious, published by Mis.Label Aps. The book is highly topical, since the movie opens Danish cinemas in February 2010. The film is based on the American writer Sapphire’s novel Push from 1996 and the film has already won 3 prices at the Sundance Film Festival 2009 and is nominated for 6 Oscars.

The story is about Claireece "Precious" Jones. A 16-year-old African-American girl with a life that no one can envy her. At the age of twelve she gave birth to a child with Down's syndrome and is now pregnant for the second time with his father. Her mother is an aggressive woman who exploits the system and abuses her daughter physically and psychologically. Precious has reached ninth grade with good grades, however she can neither read nor write, so she starts at an alternative school, where the teacher’s involvement and Precious' own drive slowly corrects her path in life.

When tears turn into rain

The publishing house Forlaget Care has had their first title “Når tårer bliver til regn” (When tears turn into rain) printed at Norhaven. The book has 11 very honest stories about cancer where strong Danes tell about their experiences. The book hopes to deal with the wall of silence that many cancer patients must experience and that separates them from their loved ones.

The profit from the book sales will be donated to the fight against cancer.

The cardboard-producers must increase their FSC-selections
FSC Denmark focuses weekly on a new member on tendencies, successes and objectives.

This weeks FSC-member is the book-printing factory Norhaven. The company located in Viborg believes in an increased FSC-sale, if the FSC-certified cardboard-producers expand their repertoire of environmentally sound qualities.

What is your primary FSC-product?
“Our primary product are books and our core competence lies on paperbacks, but we also offer hardcover, catalogues, phonebooks etc. All our products can be FSC-labelled if desired by the customer”

Why did you become a member of FSC-Denmark?
“Primarily our membership was based on an increased demand from our customers, but also on an internally desire to focus more on the environmental aspect in the production of books”

How is the sale of FSC-products doing?
“In general we see a negative development in the whole industry, but still we experience a demand on FSC-labelled books, though in a smaller scale than earlier.
Despite the development in the market we encourage not to compromise on the expense of the environment by not choosing to FSC-label the products, when the possibility exists.
Furthermore it is our impression that the sale could increase provided that the cardboard manufactures increases the supply of FSC-labelled qualities corresponding to the non-labelled qualities”

What is the importance of your FSC-commitment internal?
“FSC has been implemented as a natural part of our day, and all our employees are continuously educated in the handling of FSC-orders and materials, in order for us to give our costumers the perception that choosing FSC is an un-problematic process and that the final product is of high and uniform quality.

What is your most recent FSC-success?
“We recently shipped a large FSC-order to Holland, where we experience an increased demand on FSC-labelled books”

What is your next FSC-objective?
“Our objective is to have more and more customers choosing the FSC-label, in order for us to, in the long term, increase the demand on FSC-qualities and thereby the supply".

How does the future of the FSC-brand look in your opinion?
“We are convinced that the demand on FSC will continue to increase, and we will do our part to make sure that this development will happen fast".

Norhaven A/S prints book about Michael Jackson

Norhaven A/S recently printed the book on Michael Jackson. It concerns both paperback and hardcover editions.

5. October, EC Edition released the brand new biography "Unmasked - the final years of Michael Jackson" written by New York Times bestselling author Ian Halperin. The book was published 14th July 2009 and at the moment number one on the NY Times bestseller list, Publisher's Weekly and Wall Street Journal. The book, whose Danish title is " Unmasked - Michael Jackson - de sidste år af hans liv" gives a sympathetic portrait of the icon, artist, businessman and family man Michael Jackson.

At this time a number of MJ-biography’s are published in English. But unlike them, the author behind "Unmasked - Michael Jackson - the last years of his life" spent the last five years to prepare the book. It was scheduled to be published in late summer of 2009.

No matter what the investigation ends up to conclude, it was greed that killed the "King of the Pop" - Michael Jackson. Friends, employees and partners reveals in the biography "Unmasked - Michael Jackson, the last years of his life" a tragic picture of the last years and days of the musician and performer's life, as Jackson tried desperately to prepare for the 50 planned concerts which should have started 2nd July 2009 in London. These shows have given millions of dollars in revenue, but the pop star could never have done it, neither mentally or physically. MJ knew this, and his advisers knew that too.
